 W.A.R.M. Inc.

Welcome and thank you for visiting our website.

The Wilson Area Railroad Modelers, Inc. (W.A.R.M.) is a membership of people interested in modeling a freelance layout with various styles, techniques and time periods.  In our world, you'll likely see steam locomotives and modern diesels working side by side.  Many of our members run locomotives with sound so you will hear the sounds of modern diesels and air horns or the chuff of vintage steam locomotives with whistles and brass bells.  In addition to three diesel shops we also created a scene for servicing the steam locomotives complete with roundhouse and turntable.

As you walk around following the trains, you'll see several scenes depicting mountainous terrain with towering trestles, towns, industries, rail yards and passenger stations.  The layout features two separate railroads for running trains using an interchange yard.

Our main line operates over 65 modules in a single and double track main line configuration that services about half of the industries available.  Two main line yards are operated point-to-point in a North-South direction while our branch line is operated in an East-West direction with an interchange yard.  During our open house we run trains in a loop.

Our branch line traverses the entire layout in a point-to-point configuration.  It features a high line running down a grade into and through a town just like what you might see in rural America.  From here it runs out of town turning into an industrial line servicing an industrial park, steel mill, brewery, tank farm and a coal yard for a power plant with several smaller customers in between.  With all this going on, you won't find trains sitting idle for long because we are in the process of installing a train signal control system to keep them moving.

We are open to the public every Saturday (except holidays) from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Admission: $1 per adult.  Children are free and must be accompanied by an adult.

Why NMRA Standards and RP's Work

This video describes with a very nice CAD demonstration why the NMRA standards and RP's do work yet are unjustly blamed for problems by so many.  Watch this video and see exactly how an NMRA spec switch works and why it works so well with proper construction.

LED's

Here is a handy tool to prevent blowing out a low voltage bulb or LED.  Input volts and current of the bulb or LED and volts of the supply to get the closest commercially available resistor.

Whatever resistor value you need, you should use a minimum 1/2 watt resistor for supply voltages over 8.

Try it out!

If you come to a Railroad Crossing, it is your responsibility to stop, look, listen and live whether there are gates, lights and bells or nothing but crossbucks.  You are required by law to yield to trains.  The driver of this vehicle failed...
